Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) is a colorless gas. Hydrogen Fluoride in the liquid form is Hydrofluoric Acid.
Applications
Hydrogen Fluoride emissions are present across a variety of industries including metal processing and finishing, agricultural, fertilizer, semiconductor, chemical production, and mining. HF is widely used in stainless steel and alloy industries for pickling and descaling various metals. HF is often used in the chemical etching process of aerospace components.
Regulatory Considerations
Hydrofluoric Acid is listed as a hazardous air pollutant (HAP) by the US EPA.
Control Technologies
HEIL Series 730 Counter-Current packed tower scrubbers are the most common technology for high efficiency scrubbing of Hydrogen Fluoride and Hydrofluoric Acid Emissions. Potassium Hydroxide is often used for pH control of the scrubbing solution.
Heil Hydrofluoric acid scrubbers can achieve removal efficiencies greater than 99.9%.
